The Buntu Foundation is a Philanthropic organization that has contributed a lot to the socio-economic life of Burundi, since its creation in 2005. Its founder and chairperson, Madame Denise Bucumi Nkurunziza
with her heart full of compassion, began to share the bread of her children with orphans and widows before being supported by partners through Buntu Foundation.
Maman Buntu is the nickname given by Burundians to this wonderful woman. Up to this day, she is called so thanks to these acts.A widow who helps widows and orphans Many people believe that the activities of the Buntu Foundation were terminated right after the death of the late President Pierre Nkurunziza. Admittedly, Denise Nkurunziza, motivated by her heart, tried to maintain the lives of orphans and widows through this foundation despite the departure of almost all the partners and after the death of her husband who was the President of Burundi.
Since 2020, the activities of the Buntu Foundation have become a heavy burden for this lady who found herself in solitude and without partners. But thanks to her efforts, the Umusamariya w’Imbabazi orphanage of Ngozi continues to operate with a staff of 64 orphans. The 24 employees of this orphanage are still dependent on this lady
who tries to maintain the lives of the 18 widows who work in this orphanage.
It is not only the staff of the orphanage that weighs on the head of Maman Buntu, let us also add that of Radio Buntu “the Voice of orphans and widows”, which amounts to 37 employees. But the courage of this mother pushed her to undertake the project to set up television which will begin broadcasting in July 2023.
ETS Buntu currently has 202 students who are in the sectors of TIAA and Catering and Tourism.
The Buntu Foundation has continued to give hope to the hopeless up today. Certainly, it needs people with compassionate hearts and the various organizations to support it because there is strength in Unity!
